Starving families in Uganda forced to hunt protected wildlife for food during lockdown

Turning back to the global impact of coronavirus and in one sense, Uganda is considered to have largely escaped so far the worst effects of the pandemic – with only three deaths from coronavirus, all recorded in the last week.

But the east African nation has still paid a hefty price, with the crucially important tourism industry devastated by the global lockdown and many jobs lost. Now, there are worrying reports of hungry families hunting protected wildlife for food, while, inside the zoos, animals aren’t safe either.
