Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has tested positive for the coronavirus but shows no symptoms, his office said in a statement on Monday.

Rebelo de Sousa, who is seeking a second term in an election on January 24, has informed Prime Minister António Costa and Health Minister Marta Temido and is self-isolating at his official residence in Lisbon, according to his office.

His first test came back negative, but his second test was positive, the statement said. Later on Monday, his office announced that the 72-year-old president took another test, with the results still unknown.
