Australian veteran and T20 specialist Dan Christian, who is currently representing Sydney Sixers, announced he would retire from cricket after the conclusion of the ongoing Big Bash League 2022-23.

Christian has played 405 T20s, scored 5809 runs and scalped 280 wickets in the shortest format. The 39-year-old has been part of 4 different teams in the BBL over the last decade, namely – Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Sixers. He also made 20 ODI and 23 T20I appearances for Australia and last represented the country in 2021.

The Aussie all-rounder earned success all over the world in the last decade. Since 2010 he has won nine domestic T20 titles and also tasted victory in England with Nottinghamshire County Club. In the 2020-21 season of BBL, Christian guided Sydney Sixers to the title with his 271 runs and 15 wickets in the tournament. Previously in the 2018-19 season, he had won the championship with Melbourne Renegades.

On Saturday (January 21), Christian took to the microblogging site Twitter and announced his retirement by sharing a note captioned “Some news”.

“Yesterday at training I told by Sydney Sixers teammates that I’ll be retiring from playing at the end of the BBL season. Sydney Smash tonight, followed by our last round game against the Hurricanes, and then the finals.”

“Hopefully we can go all the way again this season, but regardless, it’s been a great run. I’ve achieved things and made some memories that I could only have dreamt of as a kid.”

“What I didn’t expect to learn as a kid though, is how many people I was going to come in contract with that have had an influence on my career and ended up becoming lifelong friends,” he added. “I’m looking forward to now having the time to catch up with you all and not having to use the excuse: “Sorry, I’ve got cricket,”
Christian posted on Twitter.

The ending of the note shared by Christian said: “I’ll reserve some thank you’s for after my last game (Whenever that may be), but in the meantime. Go the Sixers!”

With already in the top two, Sydney Sixers will play at least two matches from now and possibly three if they reach the finals of the BBL 12.
